Miami University Forbids Professors from Engaging in Planned Labor Day Event

Solidarity:

The Miami Administration has halted a planned Labor Day teach-OUT planned by the Miami Faculty Alliance (MAM-AAUP). The proposed teach-OUT was to make labor visible by teaching classes outside on the university quad.

“By forbidding faculty from moving their courses outside, the University has turned what was otherwise going to be a celebration of our students and our teaching into a swell of faculty outrage about this unprecedented new edict,” says Theresa Kulbaga, Professor of English and FAM’s President.

Miami faculty have been trying to bargain a new contract for six months. The Miami admin has refused to come to the table and bargain in good faith.

The United Academics of Ohio University (UAO) are also organizing to become a represented bargaining unit at Ohio University.
