Dear Member,
Thank you to everyone that attended the last membership meeting. It was a very well-attended meeting. If you were unable to attend, the membership present unanimously approved an increase in the dues rate of 0.25%, which will take affect if the U.S. Supreme Court rules that the Chapter and all public sector employee unions can no longer require non-members to pay fare share fees. This is expected in the Janus case. The dues increase will not go into effect unless there is an adverse ruling from the Supreme Court. The increase will not be implemented until September 1st, 2018.
Thank you to the Faculty members that presented or participated in one of the Q and A sessions. As was stated at those sessions, this small dues increase will not offset the loss of the fare share fees. There will still be cuts to the Chapter’s budget. The Chapter staff has been reduced. We will need for faculty to step up and be more active moving forward. Specifically, there will be opportunities on the Contract Compliance and Education Committee, the Budget and Compensation Advisory Committee, and the Political Action Committee. Contact the Chapter office if you are interested in serving on any of these important committee.
Thank you again to everyone who participated in the process and voted. Your efforts are appreciated.
In solidarity,
Ron Jones
