A stronger Chapter is better positioned to assist all faculty and bargain for the best possible contract. Fair share fees will enable the Chapter to better serve faculty through expanded programming, communications, and education outreach; investment in training and new leadership development; and hiring more staff to better serve faculty needs. In addition, the Chapter will now be able to replenish and strengthen its reserves, building a firm financial base so that decisions such as taking on an expensive arbitration battle on behalf of faculty can be made solely on the merits. (An average arbitration costs $20,000 - $30,000. The gender equity arbitration of a few years ago cost $120,000.)

Using the Chart
  • Find your salary in the 1st column. 
  • Your estimated monthly payroll deduction for a 10 month pay schedule is in the 2nd column. 
  • Your estimated monthly payroll deduction for a 12 month pay schedule is in the 3rd column. 
  • The AAUP membership dues rates are in the third and fourth columns, for 10 month and 12 month pay terms, respectively.

 

 

What Do Fair Share Fees Pay For?

Fair share fees are used only to support those activities of the Chapter that benefit all bargaining unit faculty. These are known as “chargeable” activities. Those activities include services such as:

  • Research and preparations for contract negotiations, and negotiating the contract

  • Handling work-related problems of faculty, including analysis of potential grievance cases

  • Representing faculty members in grievance cases, including hearings and arbitrations

  • Communications and media relations related to collective bargaining matters

  • Maintaining an office and professional staff to serve the entire bargaining unit
