AAUP WORKS FOR YOU
A publication of the
University of Cincinnati Chapter, AAUP
August, 2005
IN BRIEF
BONUSES
Procedural
details for the awarding of bonuses during the second and third years of
the current Collective Bargaining Agreement, to be recommended to
President Zimpher, have largely been worked out by AAUP and
Administration representatives. One last meeting of the AAUP-Administration
Joint Committee, to be scheduled for later this month, is needed to
formalize the final recommendations. The procedures should be in place
in time to accept first applications in late fall.
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR SEARCH
Advertisement of the AAUP Executive Director position has yielded a
number of applications so far. The Search Committee is considering
inviting one or more of the applicants for an interview. In the
interim, Dave Rubin is acting as Executive Director and Howard Tolley,
A&S/Political Science, is helping, especially with the grievance work.
DAVID STERLING MEMORIAL FUND
Contributions to the Dave Sterling Memorial Fund so far amount to
$1235. Depending on the amount finally collected, the money will be
used to purchase books in areas of Dave?s interests for the UC Library,
with a bookplate placed inside the cover of each book, or will be used
to establish a scholarship in Dave?s name. If you wish to contribute,
make a check out to "UC Chapter AAUP", note that it is for the Dave
Sterling Fund, and send it to the AAUP at ML 0176.
DOMESTIC PARTNER BENEFITS REOPENED
The current
Collective Bargaining Agreement has a re-opener clause providing that it
would be reopened just on the issue of domestic partner benefits if the
Legislature made no move to prohibit such benefits by June 30, 2005.
AAUP asked that the issue be re-opened and a first session was held on
July 21. At that time the AAUP put its original proposal back on the
table and presented additional supportive material.
TENTATIVE AGREEMENTS AT KSU & CENTRAL STATE
Faculty at
Kent State and Central State, both represented by the AAUP, reached
tentative agreements on new contracts on the same day ? July 29th. At
Kent State, where faculty began bargaining 14 months ago, settlement
came 7 days after strike authorization ballots were distributed to AAUP
members. Health Benefits had been the key issue. At Central State,
negotiations were completed just 2 months after they started. Details
of these agreements will be provided after they have been ratified by
the respective units. |
